This is likely to be a very slowly growing page. There are movies that are good because they are clean, then there are a subset of those that are good because they have great messages, and then there are a further subset of those that rank at the super tippity-top of my list.
I use a lot of superlatives and hyperbole in my daily speech and am trying to restore value to my assessments by really making sure that if I put something on my "best of the best" list, it really is one of those "stand out, change your life, never to be forgotten" ones.
That being said, I'm going to sort these movies into the Very Best, and All The Rest. They're all my "favourites", but the cream of the crop are at the top. [and to think I, the one who cringes when anything rhymes, just wrote that paragraph without even trying...]

The Christmas Box: definitely a Christmas classic; I like the development of two main characters
over the course of the movie. It is a beautiful story, and has very 'real' characters, which makes
the story all the more touching. We watch this every year. I would highly recommend your family
make this a part of your Christmas tradition, too!
The Very Best
The Truman Show: one of the most moving films I've ever seen. Very inspiring, and yet pretty
funny at times, too. This is a great movie to watch as a family, but is a little too intense at times
for young kids. Still, definitely one to have in your collection!
Pride and Prejudice: only the A&E version!!! The full five hour version is so very true to the
book that large sections of dialogue are actually taken straight from the book (which yes, I have
read). I've seen our VHS tapes so many times they are starting to go wonky. This is such a great
story because there are so many dimensions to the characters and plot. Lots to think about....
And guys, this is not just a girl movie. I know of lots of guys who really enjoyed this movie.
Anne of Green Gables: and the sequel. This is the most inspiring movie I've ever seen. The
character development is just beautiful. Especially because I am so very much like Anne... in too
many ways to list here. And who doesn't like a good movie about a teacher? :P
A Wrinkle in Time: again, such a beautiful and inspiring movie. Another main character I am SO
very much like... It's nice to see Meg grow throughout the adventure. I can't really explain all my
thoughts on this movie - you just have to see it to appreciate it... The depth of the characters is
really captivating. This gets a little intense for young kids, but is a great family movie!
All The Rest
Inkheart: this was a really good movie. I watched it because Emily was reading the book to our
students during shared reading and I wanted to at least have an idea of the plot! I didn't think it
was any more disturbing (gross looking fiction characters, "evil" tension, etc) than the Narnia
movies. I really enjoyed it; the characters are intriguing, as is the premise of the story. I haven't
read the book yet, but I did think it seemed like there was a lot more room for creativity or
development of the story line... Maybe I need to read the book! The movie, though, I quite
enjoyed!
High School Musical 1,2,3: honestly, I know these people are not the best actors, and I know
the plot line is shallow, under-developed and cut directly from the only Disney Channel Movie
template Disney seems to have on hand, but the music and dancing is amazing. They start of
good in the first movie and continually improve, making HSM3 my favourite for both. One thing
you CAN say for HSM is that it is clean, family entertainment. All of the "hiccups" in HSM2
(sneaking out at night, breaking rules, even some of the bathing suits...) were not only not worse
in HSM3, but actually got better (no one wore anything more revealing that some of the dance
costumes in White Christmas). I will say, though - I consider myself as having a pretty high
threshold for watching movies with poor acting and lousy plot lines; however, HSM3 was the
second movie in my life that actually pushed me right to the limit. I made it through twice, and now
just enjoy the soundtrack and/or the version of the movie that skips through the dialogue and
just shows the dancing. (Wondering what the first movie was? Cheetah Girls. Four words - Oh my
crazy goodness...!!!)
